The Descending Dove is the most familiar representation of the Holy Spirit. Biblical reference to this symbol is found in the baptism of Jesus (Matt. 3: 16). The dove should be white and should have the three-rayed nimbus, a symbol of a member of the Trinity. The nimbus distinguishes the image for the dove of peace, a symbol used by numerous non-Christian groups. The Holy Spirit is the Christian dove of peace.
