Adapted from David J. Hetland's Now The Silence,
Now The Feast, the three interlocking rings, a traditional
symbol for the Holy Trinity, form the central framework of this graphic.
The hand of God extends down from the heavens to present the Christ child,
a gift of grace warmly and gently received by human hands uplifted.
David J. Hetland is a nationally-recognized designer particularly known
for his liturgical works in mosaic and stained glass, and we thank him
for permitting us to grace our homepage with a piece of his work.
A visit to David's
internet studio to view samples of his work in mosaic, stained
glass and paint is well worth your time. Members of the ELCA can find
Rondel, the entrance mosaic commissioned for the national
church's Chicago offices. It depicts the Tree of Life with 12 branches
and is surrounded by various symbols of Christ's passion.
(Remember to return to St. Mark's and finish
your visit if you follow the Hetland link now.)
