February's Steward of the Month is Kirsten Meehan, who like the other "Stewards" was quite surprised to be asked. Serving St. Mark's is part of who she is and comes very natural. Kirsten and her husband, Kevin, first attended St. Mark's at a Christmas service in 2000 after just moving to Hamilton. In Kirsten's own words "We were so impressed with Pastor's warm demeanor and the family atmosphere that we decided to attend regularly," and they joined St. Mark's in 2002.
Kirsten was raised Lutheran and was a member of Shepherd of the Hills in Sparta, NJ where she and Kevin were married in 1999. Kirsten in gifted in many ways. She has been a faithful member of our Stewardship Team since 2002, where she has shared her faith journey with the congregation through annual temple talks, most recently this past Fall, eight months pregnant and getting herself to the 8:15 service. Now that's commitment! After presenting her temple talk, she returned home to finish getting the family ready and returned the church in time to teach her Sunday Church School class, then presented her temple talk again at the 11:00 service!!
Kirsten has also helped with Vacation Bible School preparation and with the HomeFront meals. Prior to being the mother of three small children, she was a member of the "Wednesday Night Bible Study" group. She misses the Bible Study group very much, and hopes to return soon.
Family is very important to Kirsten, and her "church family" is a meaningful part of her life. Those who attend the 11:00 service know who Laney is and how Laney likes to talk to "Charlie" - She thinks Pastor Houck's name is Charlie. Kirsten's children are her joy - Peter, Laney, and Heidi.
Kirsten is a 1996 graduate of Rutgers with a Certification in Special Education and a B.A. in Psychology. She graduated from the College of New Jersey in 2001 with a Masters Degree in Education. She works with children with autism doing consultation work, home programming, early intervention, and she has been the Coordinating Teacher for the preschool classroom at the Eden Institute in Princeton.
