St. Mark Steward of the Month for July is Kelsey Scanlan. Kelsey was baptized here at
St. Mark in 1991, and has been a very active youth of the congregation. She currently
serves as an acolyte, is active in the youth group, serves on our Altar Guild, volunteers
for nursery duty, assisted with Vacation Bible School's Snack Station for two years, and
is a member of the Holy Tollers Bell Choir. As an experienced acolyte, Kelsey is willing
to fill in whenever needed (three services on Christmas Eve and a fourth Christmas Day!) and
it's not unusual to see her on any given Sunday morning with a new acolyte providing assistance
and support.
Outside of St. Mark, Kelsey attends Nottingham High School. She is very active in sports.
She currently plays third base for an ASA Traveling Softball Team, Jersey Sharks Teal. She
also started third base on Nottingham High School Varsity Softball Team for 2006 (and she was
only a freshman!!!), and she has been associated with the Hamilton Girls Softball Association
since 1999. Kelsey also enjoys playing basketball and has been a member of the Cook A.A. in
Trenton since 1997 as a youth basketball player. This year, she played on Nottingham's freshman
basketball team.
In 2005, Kelsey served as a delegate with the People to People Sports Ambassador program, which
took her to Australia! As for academics, Kelsey is a recipient of the Nottingham High School
Principal's Award for Straight A's Honor Roll students (WOW!).
Kelsey just completed confirmation classes and is looking forward to soon becoming a "member
of St. Mark". It is very obvious that Kelsey already has the personal commitment needed to
be an active member of our congregation. When asked why, with all the activities of a typical
teenager, she dedicates such a significant amount of time to St. Mark, she says "because the
people here are like a second family and I love coming to church and being a part of the services.
I like helping peers learn the responsibility of being a part of the church" (and that's a
direct quote!).
Thank you, Kelsey, for all that you do.
